Software for conservation and charities

Field data capture, live dashboards and alerts for teams who work outdoors and report to funders.

Where the time goes

Conservation and charity programmes collect a great deal of information in the field and struggle to use it. Observations go into notebooks, radio calls and WhatsApp groups. Each programme keeps its own spreadsheet. When a funder asks for a report, someone spends days pulling the figures together.

The bigger cost is what nobody can see. Without a live picture, a missed check or an overdue visit only comes to light when someone happens to look. For a team protecting endangered animals, that delay can be the difference between finding an injured animal and losing it.

What we build

Software that starts in the field. Staff and rangers record observations on their phones with GPS and photos, using forms built for the job rather than a general survey tool. Managers see the whole programme on a live dashboard, with a map and an activity feed.

Each animal, site or project has its own record and history. Rules you set raise alerts automatically, for example when an animal has not been seen within the expected time for its species, and escalate them from amber to red as time passes.

Because the data is captured once and kept in one place, reports for funders and boards can be produced from it directly. Access is set by role, which matters when the data includes the locations of animals that poachers want to find.

Where we work

We work with organisations in the UK and abroad. The Borana system runs in Kenya, and the team that uses it is in the field every day.

Questions

Do you work with organisations outside the UK?

Yes. Borana Conservancy is in Kenya.

Who can see sensitive data?

Only the people whose role allows it. Location data for endangered animals, personal data about beneficiaries and anything else sensitive can be restricted to the staff who need it.

Can it produce reports for funders?

Yes. Because observations are recorded once, in one system, reports can be produced from the data directly instead of being assembled by hand.

Who owns the software?

You do, once it is paid for. The custom code we write for you is yours, as set out in our terms.

Tell us what the team does by hand.

We'll say whether we can help and what it would cost. The first call takes 30 minutes.
